Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide has expressed optimism after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured Nigerians that there will be no increment in fuel prices.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

He disclosed that his administration is already taking steps that would ensure there is no increase in fuel prices in the country without having to reverse the nation’s decision to exit the subsidy regime.

According to Ngelale, Tinubu is taking steps to clean up inefficiencies within the petroleum industry.

Speaking further, Ngelale stated that the threat by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to go on an indefinite nationwide strike if the prices of PMS increased was premature, urging all stakeholders to be circumspect in reacting to the current situation in the country.

Reacting to the development, Bashir, in a post via his Twitter page said it is hoped that the country would not be greeted with artificial fuel scarcity in the coming days, a case of an event that happened after President Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone during his inauguration.

He tweeted, “As the Presidency assured Nigerians that there will be no increase in the pump price of petrol, it is our hope that we won’t be greeted by an artificial fuel scarcity in the coming days.
