Ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial polls, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has flagged off its campaign in Kogi for its candidate, Senator Dino Melaye.

The campaign flag-off was held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in Okene, Kogi State, ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

The opposition party also officially handed over the campaign flag to Melaye at the event attended by top members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) as well as prominent leaders of the party.

Party leaders at the event, included former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, among others.

Others at the flag-off are traditional leaders, leaders of faith-based organizations, youth groups, women groups, critical political stakeholders and hordes of supporters across Kogi state.

Melaye is among the top three contenders, along with Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Leke Abdejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Murtala Yakubu-Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The camp of Dino Melaye had accused his counterparts in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Muritala Ajaka, and Elder Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye’s team alleged that the governorship candidates are pursuing a third-term agenda for the incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

It was gathered that this accusation was made by the spokesperson of the Dino/Deen youth campaign council of the PDP, David Itopa, over the weekend.

Itopa argued that Ajaka was previously a close ally of Governor Bello and played a role in the deliberate impoverishment of the people of Kogi state.
