A 31-year-old man, Lukman Alao, was docked before a Magistrates’ court in Ibeju-lekki, Lagos State, on Friday after he was accused of conspiring with others at large to steal property worth N1,118,542.
The police charged Alao on two counts bordering on conspiracy to wit felony and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sup. Friday Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Sept. 20 and 30 in the Magbon Segun area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
Ekundayo said the defendant, with others at large, stole 66 bags of cement valued at N343,200, 22 pieces of 16mm iron rods valued at N301,536, and another 49 bags of cement valued at N254,500.
The prosecutor added that the defendant and his cohorts also stole 42 pieces of 10mm iron rods valued at N159,301 and willfully damaged a CCTV camera with a memory card valued at N60,000, property of one Mr Francis Awoyera.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olumide Fusika, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Fusika adjourned the case until Nov.11 for mention. (NAN)
