Bara Daniel, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman for Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has sustained injuries after he was attacked by suspected political thugs.
It was alleged that the hoodlums were led by the former council chairman, Victor Isaiah, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Trouble started in Twon Brass jetty in the Brass local government area when officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were offloading the election materials ahead of tomorrow’s off-cycle governorship election in the state.
During the process, a misunderstanding reportedly ensued between the APC and PDP supporters over where the election materials should be kept.
Their argument resulted in an attack, and Daniel was injured in the head. However, Isaiah, while interacting with journalists, denied any involvement in the assault.
According to him, he saved the day due to the purportedly disorderly conduct of Daniel, who was allegedly intimidating APC supporters on securing the election materials.
“I was there actually to monitor the process of the materials offloading, but the PDP chairman kept making derogatory statements which unsettled some people, but I was able to calm the situation,” SaharaReporters quoted Isaiah saying.
Normalcy was restored in the area by some military personnel who intervened.
Reacting, the Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Alabo Hanson Karika, expressed strong disapproval of the assault on the PDP Chairman of Brass LGA.
Karika has urged security personnel to remain vigilant to avert any additional acts of violence.
