Davido
Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star, Davido has reflected on his career after 14 years in the music industry, stating that he is not retiring anytime soon.
“Six kids after, I’m a father, I’m a husband, I feel like I’m 60,” Davido revealed. “If you calculate it from when I was 17 years old till now, when I am almost 32, what I’ve been through, the places I’ve been, the experiences I’ve had, the kind of people I’ve met and the kind of people I know, it’s a lot.”, he said.
Despite his weariness, Davido expressed gratitude for remaining relevant in the industry. “We’re grateful. A lot of people don’t have 14 years and still popping; it rarely happens like that, for us to just have the opportunity to keep going.”
Discussing his music career, Davido attributed his longevity to his passion. “Everybody’s road is different. I came in just loving music. I didn’t need money, I didn’t need nothing. I came in just having a love for music and entertainment, and I knew I had something to offer the world. So I feel like that is why I just stayed at it and stayed at it.”
With no signs of slowing down, Davido emphasized his commitment to his craft. “I have been doing this for a very long time. For like 13, 14 years, and I am not bored. I am not bored at all. I don’t think there is a retirement soon. For now, we are still going. We still have somewhere to get to, somewhere to go.”
Looking ahead to his legacy, Davido stressed the importance of paving the way for future generations. “And then after we are done, we will leave the blueprint for the people that come after us. And when they are done, they will leave the blueprint for those who come after them. I am just happy that at least we kicked in the door.”
