According to a report by SaharaReporters, the family of a man known as Mr. Basil Okwu, has cried out about their son.
The family raised the alarm over the continued detention of their son, Michael Okwu, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for over six months without trial.
A family member, Chigozie Okwu, told SaharaReporters that Michael and his colleague are being detained on the alleged involvement in a container theft at the Tin Can Port, an allegation the accused vehemently refuted.
Chigozie said that “My cousin brother has endured an unjust detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for an extended period due to his inability to fulfill the surety terms.
“The allegations against my brother are deeply troubling. He and his colleague stand accused of involvement in a container theft at the Tin Can Port, allegations they vehemently refute.
“They have languished behind bars for over six months, nearing a year, without conclusive evidence or a fair trial. This unjust situation has inflicted significant harm upon their lives, our families and their future prospects.”
According to the family, the presiding judge in Michael’s case marked FHC/L/532C/22, is Justice A.O Awogboro of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State.
