Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa have relieved the pain of some residents of the Rumudara community in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
This comes after the duo donated food items to the community members on December 30, 2024, under the Mercy Is Blessed Foundation, the charity arm of Grace and Truth Nation (GNT) Nation, the singer’s music label.
The foundation distributed bags of rice and garri, cartons of tomato paste, and tubers of yams. In addition to the food items, it gave residents cash gifts and clothing materials. Some beneficiaries included disadvantaged residents, the elderly, and single mothers.
According to Uzochikwa, the initiative is to empower the community, provide sustainable means of income, and demonstrate God’s love to the world.
“The central goal of Christ is love and He is the reason for the season. According to John 3:16, we know that giving is the DNA of love. John 3:16 says: ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life’,” he said.
“Love is about giving and that is why the Mercy Is Blessed Foundation has made it a central idea to share the love of Jesus Christ with people who don’t know where their next meal would come from. The goal is not just giving them food items but empowering and establishing them to have sustainable means of income.”
