On Friday, November 10, the Nigerian Army revealed that at least five Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) fighters were reportedly killed during an aggressive clearance operation in Yobe State, northeast Nigeria.

However, one soldier was also reportedly killed.

The troops of 27 Task Force Battalion, Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai, reportedly naturalised the terrorists during a gun battle at Mulumti General Area of Buni Gari, while many were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

The ammunition captured by the troops included “1 Conqueror APC, 4 Ak47 rifles with 4 extra Magazines, 1 GPMG, 1 NSVT Gun 1, Baofeng Radio and 150 Quantities of 12.7 MM rounds among others”.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region that the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw into the bush.

According to sources, “five terrorists were killed while others are believed to have fled with gunshot wounds”.

“Unfortunately, one soldier paid the supreme price after the troops encountered an Improvised Explosive Device planted by the terrorists in the withdrawal route of the troops,” he added.
