Popular Nigerian singer, Portable, has advised embattled crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to retrace his steps and “repent from his sinful ways.”
Portable’s remarks follow the legal and personal challenges currently facing Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, who was recently released from prison on August 5 after serving part of a six-month sentence that began on April 12 for his involvement in the abuse of the Nigerian currency, the naira, now faces new allegations.
TORI reports that the controversy escalated when social media influencer, Martin Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released an alleged audio recording in which Bobrisky purportedly claimed to have bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to have charges against him dropped.
Bobrisky, a well-known transgender personality on social media, has denied the allegations, calling the audio “fake” and maintaining that he had not paid any bribe. He stated, “I served my term in prison.”
Following the bribery claims, the EFCC summoned both Bobrisky and Otse for questioning, with the agency’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, ordering a full investigation into the matter.
The Nigerian government also took swift action, suspending two NCoS officers implicated in the scandal.
Further complicating the situation, rapper Falz supported part of Otse’s claims in a letter to the activist.
In the letter, Falz alleged that Bobrisky had asked him for ₦3 million to pay officials for preferential treatment in prison, which he declined.
Amidst the legal troubles, Bobrisky revealed that he is struggling with suicidal thoughts, although he clarified that he does not seek sympathy but rather understanding as he faces this difficult time.
Taking to Instagram, Portable responded to the unfolding events by advising Bobrisky to reject thoughts of su!cide.
Instead, he urged the crossdresser to repent and seek forgiveness from God, paving the way for a positive change in life.
Portable said, “Bobrisky, life is risky. God does not want sinners to die. Tell him to repent. Damn it to any sinner that does not repent. If you die, you are going to hell. Beg God to forgive you. God does not want a sinner to die.
“Help me tell Bobrisky to ask God for forgiveness. All Bobrisky needs is to ask God for forgiveness of sin. What Bobrisky is facing now, if he repents, he will enjoy the world. But if he does not repent.”
